Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian has been a Canadian and American feminist media critic for over 20 years. She is well-known as a public speaking. Feminist Frequency is a web site with video and an online blog on the representation of women in pop media and popular. Anita Sarkeesian has been a journalist, media critic and award-winning feminist for nearly a decade. Feminist Frequency is an educational site for non-profit organizations that explores the representations of females in narratives from popular culture. As well as working to bring awareness to the harassment and targeted attack on women and as well as other minorities, she is committed to breaking down the stigmas and stereotypes associated with pop culture. Sarkeesian holds a Masters in social and political thinking from York University. As a public speaker, she is highly sought after and has been a speaker at TEDxWomenXOXO as well as the United Nations Broadband Working Group. She has been interested in the gender issue and feminist movements at a early age. In 2009, while still studying at university she launched her Feminist Frequency web site. She had a plan to launch a web series on the gender roles in video games. However, she was the subject of a harassment online campaign. It was not enough to halt her. It actually made her more committed as a feminist and media critic. She is a recipient of several awards for her contributions to feminism. Anita Sarkeesian is an award winning media critic and the founder of Feminist Frequency an educational non-profit which studies the portrayals of women in popular culture stories.
